Eddy Firmin, also known as Ano, is an Afro-Canadian artist from Guadeloupe based in Montreal.
He holds a PhD in Art Studies and Practices from UQAM and is the editor of the decolonial journal Minorit’Art. His work explores identity, power dynamics, and transcultural expression through a decolonial lens. Firmin is developing a “Bossale” method to reclaim and reimagine artistic imagination.
Blending theory and practice, he draws from Gwoka—a traditional Afro-Caribbean art form combining dance, music, and storytelling—alongside other resistance traditions. He has exhibited widely and collaborated with major institutions, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and is the second Afro-descendant artist in the collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
